An interdisciplinary team of scientists from the Charité hospital University of Medicine Berlin followed, for the first time the birth of a child under MRI. First made possible through the collaboration of teams of radiology and obstetrics. The team was able to obtain images of the birth, but seen from inside the body of the mother and observe the movements out of the child. The hospital said that "the birth went well and that mother and child are doing well! . A new technology was developed, it will mostly understand why 15% of women give birth by caesarean section and, in some cases, Caesarean section can be avoided.

This "first" is the culmination of a two-year research and development of a new fetal monitoring system. A system that allows for example to monitor MRI heartbeat of the child during birth. This MRI system, developed by Philips is a novel device that allows thanks to its "open" easy access to the mother and child.

The aim of the research team is to gain a deeper understanding of the process of birth and movements of the unborn child in the mother's pelvis. Their main objective, in particular understand why 15% of women should give birth by Caesarean section today.
